A FAMILY is living in fear after having £5,000 worth of possessions stolen from their garage.

Chelsea Knapp says bikes, scooters and camping and fishing equipment were taken during multiple break-ins – which have not been reported to the police "because they can't do anything".

“Things have been stolen from us about five times in less than a year," said Chelsea.

"The last incident happened only a couple of weeks ago when we checked our garage, everything was gone.

"We had two bikes stolen in May last year, my son’s scooter was taken in November weeks after he got it for his birthday, and my car had been rummaged through in December.

“When I went down to the garage and saw what had happened I felt so violated to think that someone had done that, they’ve been on my property.

"Our four children go in the garden every day to play, it makes me very uneasy.

“I’ve started to worry that they’re watching us, are they just waiting for us to leave?

"I don’t understand why it’s just my house that has been targeted this many times.

"It’s absolutely horrendous.”

Chelsea decided to drill the garage shut to prevent it from being broken into again and is looking into the possibility of installing CCTV.

She said: “We really do need to have cameras installed.

"We haven’t reported it to the police because they can’t do anything, we don’t have any proof of what was in our garage or any proof of who broke in.

“I’ve had enough, we can’t keep throwing money at things that ultimately are just going to be taken from us.

“It’s making me feel so unsafe. My eldest two children keep telling me they’re worried at night time that someone’s in the garden.

"It’s not a nice feeling that they feel like that, that they feel unsafe in their own home.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We would always urge people to report any crime or anti-social behaviour to us, so we can both carry out enquiries and provide assistance, but also build up an intelligence picture of criminal activity in different areas.

“If we know about crime trends or a spate of crime types, then there are a number of things we can do, including additional patrols and an increased policing presence in a certain community.

“If you have been a victim of crime then please report it via our website, or 101, or if a crime is in progress or it is an emergency, then call 999.”
