POLICE welcomed the prison sentenced handed down to a “prolific” offender.

Banned driver Lee Turner, 32, was jailed for six months earlier this week after police caught him driving a stolen Ford Fiesta in the Railway Village. When he was later searched, he was found to be carrying a small knife.

He was out of prison on licence at the time after being sentenced at Swindon Crown Court at the start of the year for driving while disqualified and possession of a bladed article.

Welcoming the sentence, PC Victoria Barker of Wiltshire Police said: "This is a good result as Turner is turning out to be a prolific offender; he had only just come out of prison before committing these offences.  This was also his third possession of a bladed article offence.

"The Fortitude Team continues to work to counteract criminality like Turner's.  It's part of our ongoing commitment to target some of the most prolific and serious offenders in our communities."
