A NEW retirement community is being built in Swindon - and the developers want to help charities and good causes in the area.

Construction of McCarthy Stone's Gilbert Place Retirement Living Plus complex on Lowry Way is nearing completion.

The Swindon site will feature a mixture of one-bedroom and two-bedroom low-maintenance apartments for people aged 70 and over.

They will go on sale this summer and the first residents are expected to arrive and settle into their new homes early next year.

But before then, the retirement community manager wants to pledge its support to a project, charity or one-off event in the Old Town area.

Divisional marketing manager for McCarthy Stone Southern Nicki Beswarick said: "It is very important when creating a new development that we actively look to integrate into the local community.

"Our charity appeal in Swindon allows us to create important ties with local groups and neighbourhood projects, helping us all to build a positive legacy together.

"This is particularly important at a time when we begin to emerge from the restrictions that will have hampered charities’ efforts to raise much-needed funds.

"We encourage any local groups who are interested to get in touch now.”

Local groups and charities are being urged to get in touch by emailing requests to mccarthyandstone@mccann.com before May 28 2021.

These emails should include ‘Swindon Community Appeal’ in the subject header.

Future homeowners at the development will have access to a homeowners’ lounge, landscaped gardens maintained by McCarthy Stone’s team, and a guest suite for when family and friends come to stay.

An estate manager will take care of the day-to-day running of the development along with secure entry systems and 24-hour emergency call points.

McCarthy Stone received the Housebuilder Special Recognition Award in 2020 for working hard to protect its customers, as Covid-19 infection rates among its homeowners are significantly below the national rate of infection across all age groups, and for innovation in the retirement sector.
