A PARK North man smashed a door and tried to push over a motorcycle belonging to his neighbour’s grandson in the false belief they’d stolen cash from him.

Mark Wilson, 53, said he was suffering from paranoia when he threatened the younger man and damaged the bike on November 13, 2020.

Prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the bike’s owner had been visiting his grandmother in the block of flats she shared with Wilson when he heard the man attacking his own door then shouting threats at him.

He came over to his motorcycle and push it over, punching the bike while succeeding in bending the stand.

Later, Wilson smashed a window to the communal flats in Dulverton Avenue, Park North, in an attempt to get back inside as he’d left his keys at home.

Tony Nowogrodzki, mitigating, told the magistrates his client had stopped taking medication prescribed for his mental health. As a result, his mental health had deteriorated.

Wilson told the police officers who interviewed him that he had been feeling paranoid that someone had been breaking into his flat.

Mr Nowogrodzki said Wilson client now realised what a “terrible decision” it had been to stop taking his medication. He was now back on the prescription and there had been no repeat of the earlier incident. He was remorseful.

Wilson, of Dulverton Avenue, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and criminal damage. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £269 in compensation and must pay £119 in costs and surcharge.
