A rugby coach ran 5km every day in March with his wife to raise money to take his team on tour next year.

Barry Christian is coach to the Supermarine under 11s rugby team, and decided to take on the challenge with his wife Cory to fund a treat for his boys after a tough year.

As well as coaching, Barry plays for the Supermarine Seniors and was voted the club's player of the month for his fundraiser, awarded a case of beer from the Hop Kettle Brewery.

Barry says, "It was a bit of a crazy idea for me and my wife. I didn't think it would be as hard as it was.

"It's about a 30 minute run every day. The first 20 days felt quite comfortable, but we both really struggled after that 20 day mark.

"We completed Couch to 5k and then saw this challenge on YouTube and decided we could raise some money for the rugby team.

"We didn't think we would get much. We set our target for £300 but the final total was £1,310, which is amazing.

"We want to tour this country next year. Everyone has had a hard time, so we want to get the kids out and have a small holiday.

"They really enjoy their rugby. They are a brilliant bunch of kids to coach."
