A BENTLEY driver who led police on a high speed chase through Swindon was warned he could be jailed.
Tommy Lee, 42, was behind the wheel of a Bentley Continental sports car on December 1, 2019, when he was chased from the M4 to East Wichel.
Police officers lost sight of the £160,000 car as he sped off the motorway, eventually catching up with the abandoned motor dumped on Barbrook Road.
Senior officers had given the green light to traffic officers to pursue the vehicle after it was reported driving erratically and at high speed between junctions 15 and 16.
Lee, of Bagshot, Surrey, had denied dangerous driving and driving without insurance. However, he changed his pleas – appearing via Swindon Crown Court’s video link system to enter a guilty plea to the dangerous driving last Friday. He denied driving without insurance.
Bailing him to appear before the court on May 25 for sentence and ordering a pre-sentence report, Judge Peter Crabtree said: “The starting point is custody but I’m going to ask probation to prepare a report on you. No promises from me or the trial judge.
“This is dangerous driving, the starting point is custody.”
Robert Harding appeared for the Crown Prosecution Service. Lee was represented by Peter Guest.
Judge Crabtree ordered that any dash cam footage of the incident should be played at the sentencing hearing.
