Two Swindonians who opened a brownie cafe just before the first lockdown can finally start serving inside again from today.

The popular Love Brownies shop on Faringdon Road is run by Adam Clarke and Amy Elmer.

It serves up award-winning brownies, brownie milkshakes and freshly brewed coffees, and offers delivery to nearby snack lovers.

The Swindon branch is part of a national chain with 12 other shops around the UK.

Adam says: "Our launch date was due for March 25, 2020, but lockdown came into effect on March 23, so we had to start as a takeaway. It was only on July 4 when we could let people in for the first time.

"It was very slow to begin with, because the message was stay at home. The first few days was very slow but every day got a little busier and busier.

"We have a good group of locals that we see daily, sometimes two or three times a day.

"People are definitely shopping local. There has been a massive downturn through the lockdown rules and restrictions but on the back of that, support local has come into action. It's fantastic to see."

He says the idea for starting the brownie shop started when the two tasted a brownie from the chain: "Amy got me some of the brownies for my birthday, and we thought they were so fantastic.

"So we started researching and we saw that we could open a cafe and we thought it would be a nice thing to do in Swindon.

"We've been in catering our whole lives, but we've never owned our own business. We love it and we couldn't wait to open inside again and have a normal cafe environment rather than takeaway only."

They also honour emergency services with a discount: "The emergency services were people we saw a lot of in our early days.

"It wasn't something we initially planned to do but as we opened we thought it was a really good thing to do to support the people who look after us."
