Mark your calendars - a Peppa Pig book giveaway is coming to the town centre this half term, on June 1.

Swindon Stories is giving away free Peppa Pig books to children aged 5 and under outside Debenhams between 11am and 2.30pm.

They will also be giving activity packs of early years resources to help with little children's learning.

The giveaway is part of the Hungry Little Minds campaign from the National Literacy Trust.

It aims to make sure every child in the country has access to resources that will help build their speech and language skills.

The trust says a children's brains grow fastest during the first five years of life, and parents and carers have a huge role to play in their development.

According to the charity, 175,000 children started school last year without the skills they need.

These children are more likely to struggle with their mental health as adults.

Many children also say reading in lockdown has made them feel better.

Anish Harrison, hub manager for Swindon Stories, says: "We are thrilled to be able to resume giving away free books and packs to families in Swindon.

"Chatting, playing and reading with your little one is one of the best things you can do for them."
