DISCARDED dog poo is becoming more of an irritating issue in parts of Swindon, and indeed the rest of the country.

New research saw 64 per cent of 2,000 respondents saying dog waste has become an increasingly-common problem in their area.

And nearly a third of dog owners that took part in the survey confessed to not cleaning up after their dogs and suggested that poo bags were wasteful because they could not be recycled.

In response to this, pet brand Lily's Kitchen - which commissioned the survey - created eco-friendly biodegradable bags for dog owners to pick up their pooch's poo.

The business has placed pop-up poo bag dispensers in dogwalking hot-spots in a bid to prevent the problem getting worse.

Samantha Crossley from Lily’s Kitchen said: “We wanted to make sure that our poo bags not only serve a very important purpose for pet parents, but also tread lightly on the planet.

“By offering our Planet Friendly Poo Bags to communities through our ‘Poop Troop’ dispensers, we’re hoping to tackle the huge problem of poo being left on Britain’s pavements – waiting for people to step in.

“We hope to show, not just tell, dog owners that there is a sustainable way to dispose of your pup’s poop.”

Data from the survey suggested that London is the worst region for leaving dog mess on the street, with nearly three-quarters of residents who took part in the research saying it was a problem.
