SWINDON is set to bask in temperatures of 25C this weekend as a mini heatwave hits the country.

The glorious sunshine and warmer temperatures of late is set to continue in the town for a few more days.

Tomorrow is poised to be the warmest day of the weekend for England, Scotland and Wales as Euro 2020 gets underway, according to the Met Office.

Today will be warm and sunny with a maximum temperature of 23C once early, lingering cloud has burnt away under the strong summer sunshine.

Tomorrow and Monday will be warmer still, with the latter likely to be the hottest day of the year so far according to some forecasters. Highs of 25C are expected and the sunshine is expected to last into Tuesday.

Earlier this week, the Met Office said in its blog that "high-pressure from the Azores will extend across the bulk of the country this week, bringing predominantly settled weather and allowing temperatures to slowly rise.

"Temperatures, particularly in the south, are likely to reach the mid, to possibly high 20s of Celsius over the next few days and into the weekend.

It said this could result in some areas reaching “heatwave criteria”, which is defined by the forecaster as an uninterrupted period of exceptionally high temperatures.
