Cars and vans parked on a patch of grass are driving neighbours round the bend in Pinehurst.

The vehicles are assembled on the area between Cunningham Road and Beech Avenue, off Northern Road.

A caravan appears to have an electricity cable running from it to the outbuilding behind one of the houses.

But now some people living nearby are getting fed up with it.

One who asked not to be named said: “These cars have been parked all over the green space causing an eyesore and tearing up the grass and are usually left there for months or even years in some cases.

“These cars seem to be coming and going at all hours and usually in the early hours of the morning when everyone is asleep and oblivious to it.”

But not everyone is upset.

John Woodcock, who said: “It’s not very attractive, but there’s not much you can do with this bit of land.

"It’s too much of a slop for kicking a ball around and it’s better to have them off the road than parked on it or the pavement.”

The Adver inquired at the house nearest to the vehicles and received a call from a man named Peter who said he didn’t live there but was the owner.

He declined to give his surname and said: “The caravan is mine, and the vans are the ones I use for work.

“There’s nobody living in the caravan.

"I wanted to take it to Poland but I couldn’t with all the Covid-restrictions, but I will be moving it to Poland when I can.”

Peter said the other cars were not his responsibility.

“The other cars are owned by other people living nearby.

"If you visited at the end of the day they’d be gone,” he said.

Photographs taken on different days show the caravan and two white vans on the site both days.

Some of the cars are present on both days but not all.

Swindon Borough Council is now investigating and it has determined that the grass is public land and not private property.

A spokesman said: “We have not received any specific complaints on this issue but clearly activities in this location are causing local residents some angst.

“Now we are aware of the concerned we are conducting our own investigation.”
