THE number of new coronavirus cases recorded each week is doubling and even tripling in parts of Swindon.

Some areas in the borough and around its outskirts saw increases of over 100 and 200 per cent in the seven days up to July 19.

There were 1,154 new cases recorded around the borough during that period, which is a 84 per centrise of 519 cases from the week before. Swindon's overall infection rate was 519.4 cases per 100,000 population.

Pinehurst had the biggest percentage increase in cases, 240 per cent, while Haydon Wick saw a 217 per cent rise and lydiard Millicent and Purton's new cases rose by 207 per cent.

Outer Royal Wootton Bassett and Lyneham topped the table with a triple-figure rise in terms of cases recorded, 107. This area and Covingham had the highest infection rates, of 824.1 and 877.1 cases per 100,000 population respectively.
