Councillors Gary Sumner and Curtis Flux attended the Mums on a Mission event at Lydiard Park on Saturday, that saw the accessibility campaign group bring a temporary Changing Places facility to the area.

Coun Gary Sumner said that he can definitely see the need for these facilities after speaking to the event organisers about Changing Places facilities.

“I can understand why families with disabled children want Changing Places facilities in those sorts of locations and Mums on a Mission made a very good case as to why parks with those facilities will attract people from a wide area, they mentioned they would travel to Devizes or Bracknell to use outdoor areas.

“I have already spoken to the councillor in charge of Parks and Leisure, and we’ve discussed that if we are looking to provide new facilities in both of those parks it’s only right that Changing Places facilities are included in those plans.

“Swindon in general is well covered. There are Changing places in the town centre, Sports centres are well catered. But there are a couple of glaring omissions and those are the country parks.”

Coun Curtis Flux added: "Myself and Councillor Sumner were pleased to meet with the MOAM team at Lydiard Park last weekend to show our ongoing support of this fantastic project.

"Ultimately I would like to see the MOAM team achieve their goal of more inclusive play parks within Swindon whilst also creating new and improved changing places for adults and children with disabilities.

"This will go a long way to making our town more inclusive and accessible for everyone! This is a cause I feel very passionate about, I have offered my full support and will continue to do all I can to help the team achieve their end goal."
