A TOOTHILL nursery kicked off the summer holidays with a club which brings together a variety of fun activities for children aged 18 months to eight years old.

It is the first time Colourful Time Day Nursery has been able to do so since it launched in 2019 and manager Kelly Gammage spoke about the importance of hosting activities for children during the summer months.

She said: “I think things like these are important for the children. They have been a bit different since being stuck in so having that freedom for their summer holiday to be able to carry on playing, interact with children and making new friends, I think that’s really important.

“Their freedom is coming back, the children’s freedom was restricted with everything going on.

“Now to get them out in places like holiday clubs is really important.

“It’s great for the children to have this opportunity.”
Kelly explained what was on offer at the nursery, with activities ranging from educational to sporty.

“This week will have a Disney theme, everything will be Disney related and there will be movie sessions.

“Lots of experiments will take place, we’re keen on keeping the children entertained.

“We'll be mixing baking soda and vinegar to inflate balloons, we’re going to take ideas from the children as well.

"We’re very keen for them to feel as involved as possible with the activities that we’re going to provide for them, as well as something fun.

“We'll be putting water on skittles to make the rainbow appear, dying the bottom of plants to change colour – it’s a series of cause and effect activities to see how things can change through science.

“A lot of time will be spent in our garden, we’ll be having a sporty week with the Olympics, which will keep the children active over the summer.

“With restrictions changing, we’ve been able to open up the holiday club, we’ve only been able to advertise for about six weeks because we were waiting to see what we could do.

“People were quite keen, a lot of our pre-school children are going to school this year whose parents are quite interested in the holiday club so I think as the club gets up and running, the interest will be quite good.”

The holiday club will take place from Monday-Friday at the nursery in Bodiam Drive, with different time slots available – 8am-1pm, 1-6pm or 8-6pm until August 31.
