POLICE cordoned off the entrance to an Old Town car park after a stabbing outside Tree nightclub led to four arrests for GBH.
A 17-year-old suffered serious injuries in the early-hours assault near Hoopers Place. After receiving hospital treatment for a potentially life-threatening injury, he is now in a stable condition.
An 18-year-old man is being treated at hospital for a non-serious injury he received during the same incident
Officers arrested four people on suspicion of grievous bodily harm who are now in custody.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the stabbing.
Detective Sergeant Justin Downes of Swindon CID said: “This was a concerning incident during which a young man suffered a potentially life-threatening injury.
"There were plenty of people outside the nightclub at the time of this incident - about 4.45am.
"We would appeal for anyone who witnessed this disorder to get in touch. We would also ask anyone who may have captured mobile phone footage of what took place not to share it, but to contact us as a matter of urgency.
“We would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
There is still a police presence at the scene of the crime, including a white tent set up near the Siam Thai restaurant to investigate evidence.
Three police cars and three officers were there at around 9.30am though two of the cars have since left. A private parking space next to Siam Thai has been cordoned off as well.
Businesses are still open and accessible and the car park is still usable via another entrance.
Saturday morning shoppers stopped in their tracks when they noticed the police cordon, wondering aloud about what had happened, while cars expecting to drive into the car park U-turned in the road.
