FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a major blaze at a primary school.

Crews have rushed to Woodborough Primary School this evening.

At least 10 appliances from across the county are at the scene.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "There is a lot of smoke in the area so local residents advised to keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area.

"Breathing apparatus in use to prevent fire spread to neighbouring properties and firefighting from above from the aerial platform from Swindon.”

The Sands and Broad Street are closed both ways.

The MP for Devizes Danny Kruger said: “I understand there is an ongoing fire this evening at Woodborough School in Pewsey.

“I have just spoken with the Chief Fire Officer and thankfully it does not appear there were any casualties. I will continue to wait for updates on the damage caused and my thoughts are with all those who will be affected.”

"We are now scaling back the resources at the fire in Woodborough but we will be on scene throughout the night and the road will remain closed for some time."
