POLICE are calling for help in identifying a man who is fighting for his life after being hit by a car on the A419 this morning.

The northbound carriageway remains closed after the crash at 5.45am and the pedestrian has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He is thought to be in his 20s and around 5ft 9ins tall with dark black, wavy hair. He was wearing dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms and a light-coloured top.

A Wiltshire Police social media post read: "We are urgently appealing to identify the man who was struck by the car and are asking his next of kin to contact us.

"We are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have dashcam footage from that area at that time this morning.

"Anyone who can help is asked to call 101 as a matter of urgency, quoting log 67 of today’s date (September 18).

"The northbound carriageway of the A419 remains closed from junction 15 of the M4 while our investigation continues and we will provide updates when this re-opens.

"We are supporting the driver of the vehicle involved.

"Please can we remind people not to speculate and if you do know who this person might be, please don’t name them in the comments and call 101 immediately. Thank you."
