A pond in Hooper's Field in Wanborough is being restored to make it a suitable habitat for Great Crested Newts into the future.
Work, carried out by Wiltshire Wild Landscapes, started on the pond, which had become overgrown, shaded and full of silt, earlier this month.
They will be opening up the southern aspect to allow some natural light in, as well as de-silting and reprofiling the pond.
Once the work is complete it will become part of a 25 year monitoring programme to survey for Great Crested Newts, which are protected animals in the UK.
This work has all been funded under Natural England's District Level Licensing scheme which aims to create or restore suitable habitat for Great Crested Newts.
Wiltshire Wild Landscapes are one of the delivering bodies for the Wiltshire county under the scheme and are happy to have more ponds that are potential, or existing, Great Crested Newt habitats brought to their attention for rejuvenation.
