Plans for a restaurant in Highworth to be able to sell alcohol until the early hours will be decided by councillors next week.

Mohammed Salam runs Salam’s at 30 High Street in the town. He has applied for a licence to sell alcohol onsite and off between 11.30am and 2am every day.

His application says: “We have intention to sell alcohol on licence only and to our takeaway customers from our place of business.”

Mr Salam has requested a grace period of 30 minutes to an hour for closing after an exceptionally busy day, but added he did not anticipate having to use it often.

Two people living near the restaurant have written to the council with objections to the lateness of the licence application.

Both say they are concerned that the restaurant being able to serve alcohol until 2am will make noise and other annoyances worse.

Swindon Borough Council’s licensing panel will consider the application at 10.30am on Monday at Euclid Street.
