Sparcells: A plan to divide a single three-bedroom detached house into two smaller houses has been turned down.

Ross Hayward wanted to turn 16 Nevis Close into two two-bed homes, with both having an open plan living dining and kitchen space downstairs. The existing driveway would have been divided to provide parking for both houses.

Planners at Swindon Borough Council said the two houses would be cramped and too small both inside and out, and would not provide the sort of living conditions “ rightly expected by any future occupants”.

Broadgreen: The owner of 78 Gladstone Street, will be hoping planners look kindly on her application for retrospective permission to build a rear garage.

The building, which is attached to the back to the terraced house by a small linking block has already been built. If she fails to secure permission, she could be required to demolish the garage.

Old Town: HVY Asset investments hopes to convert the building at 31 Victoria Road into a nine-bed shared house, with one bedroom on the lower ground floor, three each on the ground and first floor and two on the second floor.

The conversion would need a three-storey rear extension to be built.

Town centre: Developer Mr Sanneh wants to convert 35 Milton Road, used as a language training school, into a seven-bedroom house.

Blunsdon: A proposal to build a house on a plot of land behind one existing house and a new house not yet finished behind it has been refused.

N Ball wanted to build a new detached house behind Brooklyn Cottage in Broad Bush, Blunsdon. The new building would have been placed between the cottage and Brooklyn Lodge which is nearly complete having been recently granted planning permission.

But planners turned the scheme down saying “the proposal would constitute inappropriate development within the countryside that would undermine the sustainable development strategy contrary to Swindon Borough Local Plan the Blunsdon East Neighbourhood Plan.

“There are no benefits from the additional single dwelling that would outweigh the harm arising from a conflict with the neighbourhood and local plans.”

A similar plan by Mr Ball was refused by the council and again by a planning inspector on appeal last year due to “poor design that harms the character and appearance of the area.”

Extensions: Applications have been submitted to extend houses, or to build outhouses, or convert lofts and garages to habitable rooms at 5 Bainbridge Close, Grange Park; 27 Sandown Avenue, Lakeside; 2 Cambria Cottages, Old Vicarage lane, South Marston; 78 Drove Road, Central; 23 Greenfields, South Marston; Ragstone Cottage, Shrivenham Road, Highworth, 77 York Road, Central; 8 Leamington Grove, Broome manor, 3 Harlestone Road, Stratton St Margaret; 69 Swindon Road Stratton St Margaret; 20 Field Rise, Old Town; 12 Morie Close, Sparcells; Herbs Garden, 92 Priors Hill, Wroughton; 4 Haywain Close, Groundwell and 12 Hodson Road, Chiseldon.

Application shave been approved for 56 Capesthorne Drive, Haydon Wick; 6 Sword Gardens, Rushey Platt; 23 Cloverlands, Haydon Wick; 18 Pleydell Road, Old Town; 30 Priory Road East, Park South; 55 Chestnut Avenue, Pinehurst; 10 Comfrey Close, Woodhall Park; 56 Boundary Close, Kingsdown; 19 Grosvenor Road, Kingshill; 1 Cambria Cottages, Vicarage Lane; 21 Kellsboro Ave, Wroughton; 144 Overbrook, Eldene; 9 Leamington Grove, Broome manor; 1 Kerry Close, Ramleaze; 14 Marlborough Road, Chiseldon and 22 Dunley Close, Abbey Park.

Two extension plans have been refused because, in both cases planners thought the proposals were too large for the original building and would create “an incongruous addition to the streetscene”.

Ashley Byworth’s proposal for a two-storey side and single storey rear extension to 39 Woodside Avenue in Old Walcot and Tim Osbourn’s plan to extend 66 Clary Road in Haydon Wick were both turned down.
