THE number of new coronavirus cases recorded each week in Swindon is falling - but infection rates are still high in some parts of the borough.

The government's coronavirus case map shows Swindon had 502 new cases in the seven days leading up to October 4, which was 561 fewer than the previous week - a drop of 52.8 per cent.

All but one area of Swindon and its surrounding towns and villages saw drops in the number of positive Covid-10 tests, though Central North saw a slight increase.

Most areas saw fewer than 30 new cases within these seven days, but Abbey Park, Mouldon Hill and Oakhurst, and Groundwell and Abbey Meads still have high infection rates.

Westlea and Shaw, Rodbourne and Cheney Manor, and Upper Stratton had single-digit figures.
