Wiltshire Police have confirmed their investigation into the break-in and subsequent hate crime incident at Swindon’s Abbey Stadium has been dropped.

On September 26 Swindon Greyhounds released a statement stating homophobic abuse written in the track was scrawled by four individuals who had broken in. The statement said they had CCTV of the four individuals on the track which they would send to police.

Police confirmed they received a report of the break-in on Wednesday, a few days after it happened, but they are now closing the investigation because of a lack of evidence and witnesses.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “This incident was reported to us, the CCTV from the stadium did not provide clear quality images of the suspects and there were no witnesses to give information to assist with our enquiries.

“At this stage the investigation is due to close with no further police action.”
