ADVER readers have shared their bus experiences after a mum said overcrowding had left students are left fearing for their safety.

Lianne Hughes said she is worried her son Charlie is in danger each time he takes the

Stagecoach-run C9 service to Cirencester College, which leaves Cricklade Road at 8.18am.

She said students were seen sitting on the floors and stairs leading to the upstairs, adding “this is absolutely disgusting and a safety hazard".

Here’s what you told us on Facebook and on our website....

Nicki Curtis: “Maybe Stagecoach could look at the North Swindon bus that picks up from Orbital. I have two students that use this service and frequently sit on the stairs or stand up.

“I see this as a big health and safety concern... if your bus was involved in an accident, especially on the A419 when you reach a higher speed, what would happen to these students, I don’t like to think.

“I know you have been working closely with the college and trying to sort it out, however this route has got worse since the recent October changes, not better.

“Apart from overpacked buses, no complaints and all credit to the drivers.”

Ruth Lehane: “My son gets this bus. He pushed the button to get off one day and was half way down the stairs when the driver drove off!

“He had to get off at the wrong stop then walk. Just last week, he was late home because the driver missed the turning off the 419 on the way home. Had to go to the next junction to turn round. They’re often very late too...

“So many issues considering we pay so much money.”

Sarah Penney: “Dreadful service.

“The bus didn’t turn up one evening and my daughter had to get on another and was dropped at Orbital. She had to walk from there. Was good it wasn’t raining!”

Lianne Hughes: “I was the one who made the complaint, the college told me they thought things were better as not many parents were complaining, if your child comes home again saying it’s overcrowded then please email the college as they can’t sort it if they don’t know there’s a problem...

“The driver obviously isn’t going to report that he’s driving an overcrowded bus."

Sarah Blackmore: “My daughter's bus regularly is cancelled in the morning, so she is late... costs a lot of money to get a bus pass, and then they don’t turn up, or stop or go the wrong way... Ridiculous.”

Harmoni Lewis: “When I left my college early and had to get the 1pm bus back to Cirencester. It was so crammed and people had to sit next to people they didn’t know.

“Surely it would get to the point where the bus driver should stop letting people on."

Rachel Sellens: “The No 7 bus from Highworth back to Swindon has been the same due to the cancellations. It’s ridiculous. The drivers just keep letting people on even when the doorway is full, I do not feel safe at all.”

Craig S Ponting: “There’s a limit on seated and standing passengers on any bus. Also, no standees upstairs.”

Karen Mckinlay: “My son catches the bus to college everyday, they have always turned up, always on time and never over crowded.

“The college always keeps us up to date with any issues relating to buses and bus journeys so, I’m not sure what is going on in their area because it doesn’t happen everywhere in Swindon so please don’t judge the whole service on one person’s account.”
