A gas company was labelled pedantic and laughable by locals after a picture surfaced on social media showing only a handful of letters from the words 'Bus Stop' had been painted onto the Ermin Street road.

After leaving just a 'U', 'T' and half an 'O' Wales and West have since returned to the scene to finish the remaining road marking.

This is something they said isn't usually their responsibility, as they're only obligated to repaint markings on sections of road that they've dug up and replaced, but on this occasion they have returned to repaint the surrounding ones as well.

Wales & West Utilities Gas Engineering Manager for Swindon, Stuart Meddick said: “When we finish working in the road, we need to fill in any holes that we have dug. As required by law we must then replace any road markings that are removed during work immediately.

“At times, this can mean that older road markings on sections of road where we have not been working appear faded. While it’s then the responsibility of the local highways authority to maintain and replace these markings, on this occasion our team has put back the remaining road markings.
