MOST sex attacks happen at home and assaults are increasing in Wiltshire, according to the latest available figures.

Nationally, the ONS estimates from March 2020 show that five per cent of all rapes involve suspected drugging. There may be more, because in those situations there’s only a short amount of time to get the drug noticed in an examination before it leaves the victim’s system.

In cases where people have been assaulted and then reported it, four per cent of cases were in pubs and clubs, three per cent of cases were on the street, one per cent happened in car parks, and 0.2 per cent of incidents happened on public transport

40 per cent of crimes were committed under the influence of alcohol and 38 per cent of victims are also under the influence of alcohol.

36 per cent of these sexual assaults and rapes happen at the victim’s home and 25 per cent happen at the offender’s home.

Wiltshire Police’s figures from June show that sexual offences, including rape, went up by 12 per cent.

Reports of rape actually dropped by 1.8 per cent as of October 2021 because the majority recorded during the 12 months to June came from one unusually busy month in which half of the reports related to non-recent crimes.

A spokeswoman said: “Dealing with rape and serious sexual offences is a priority for the force. We have been working closely with partner agencies to ensure we have a range of measures in place so we can both support victims and increase the likelihood that the perpetrator will face justice.”
