Christmas came early for the people of Eldene as Father Christmas made a special appearance at the area’s first ever community day.

Over 400 people flocked to Eldene Community Centre to see Santa, as well as to take part in games and raffles and sample food and products from stalls and enjoy the music of the Ministry of Samba.

And the festive fun day was for a good cause as it helped to raise over £500 for a selection of worthy charities.

Councillor Curtis Flux, who helped to organise the Eldene event following the success of a similar one held at Cavendish Square in Park South, was thrilled with the turnout.
“With over 400 local residents in attendance this community fun day was a huge success,” he said.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen along with the generous donations we received, raising over £500 to split between local charities.”

Pam Jones, who spearheads the Friends of Shaftesbury Lake group, helped organise and host the event.

“We would like to thank everyone who came along to support this event. It was wonderful to see the Eldene Centre so busy and buzzing with atmosphere once again.

”I'd also like to thank our Tesco Swindon Extra Community Champion Michelle Hobbs who very generously provided everything for the Santa's grotto - it was very popular with everyone who came along on the day."

The £516.80 proceeds from the Festive Fayre event will go to the following charities – Chloe’s Fight With Ewings, Swindon Food Collective, MIND, Hjalpander Hander Catering and Julia’s House.
