Comedian Rhod Gilbert's Book of John tour is set to arrive in Swindon next month.

The star of the Comedy Central TV series Rhod Gilbert's Growing Pains, who has appeared on shows including Have I got News for You and QI as well as Live at the Apollo, has already played to over 100 venues across the UK since.

This includes six nights at Cardiff Arena and ten nights at the EICC in Edinburgh. Now the run has been extended into 2022.

It comes after his first live tour since 2012 was cut unceremoniously short by the shutting down of all entertainment venues during the pandemic and subsequent national lockdown.

Now he’s back on the road and the extra dates have been added due to demand.

The comic he had decided “My Book of John live tour isn’t going to do itself, so it’s time I got back out on the road and seeing as most of the shows that were postponed are already sold out, I’m sticking in a load of extra dates and extending the tour into 2022.”

He is due to be in Swindon on January 18 and will be able to add to his list of sell-out shows because fans have already purchased all available tickets.

The show promises to be "a little bit raw, very personal, and brutally honest; no more lies, no more nonsense.

“This is Rhod, but different, the same, but not. It’s a show about hitting rock bottom, and just when you think things can’t get any worse, you meet a bloke…a bloke called John.”

The comedian will be donating some of the proceeds from the tour to his chosen charities the Stroke Association and Alzheimer’s Society. It has already raised thousands for both.

In 2017 he suffered what was thought at the time to be a mini-stroke. It was a frightening incident.

And he lost his mum to dementia in 2016.

Review for the show are all positive.

The Times described it as “Darkly hilarious. Gilbert’s most satisfying show for a decade. It’s good to have him back.”

The Telegraph said: “Britain’s crossest comic roars back in style. Hilarious tour-de-force.”

As one of the UK’s leading stand-up comedy talents, Rhod has enjoyed many successful years as a star of television and radio, with appearances on several top comedy shows Eight Out Of Ten Cats Does Countdown and Taskmaster.

Just-giving pages are also set up in Rhod’s name for anyone that wants to donate at justgiving.com/fundraising/rhod-gilbert and justgiving.com/fundraising/rhodgilbert
