Adver readers were split over the announcement that Swindon Borough Council is planning to invest £500,000 into Coate Water, one of Swindon's most popular outdoor spaces.

Some said it was a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere while others thought the funding was a long time coming.

The iconic diving board is up for a facelift as part of the scheme but there are also plans to build a new inclusive children’s play park closer to the park’s entrance and to create new cafe facilities.

Here's what you had to say:

Michael-Mandy Langford: It will never happen. Just like all the ideas the council spend millions on. Spent on meetings art work and planning and never get started let alone completed. Using money that they have sold land and kick backs. Wasted every year. While next year your council tax will be increasing.

Karen Symmonds: Waste of money should be building home for the homeless. But that’s Swindon council for you.

Siobhan Lee: This would be brilliant in my opinion Coate is worth the money. It's a beautiful spot.

Karen Curtin: Need to look after the historical parts of Swindon. Lost so much already. Glad they are going to keep the diving board.

Danny Rowland: I've started all of my best walks there and continue to do so to this day. For this poet it's a good sign and about time. For once well done, SBC.

Bob Barrett: Great news for the iconic Swindon structure

Andrew Titcombe: It will never happen. Just like all the ideas the council spend millions on. Spent on meetings art work and planning and never get started let alone completed. Using money that they have sold land and kick backs. Wasted every year. While next year your council tax will be increasing.

Andrew Little: What a waste of money, very expensive bird perch. Typical SBC always get their priorities wrong, but wouldn't expect nothing else from this useless Council. I know all the money is not being spent on it, as some of it is going on the new play area.

Ray Stratford: Oh no don't let SBC get their hands on it.

Mariana Araujo: Fix Milton Road that's money well spent. If you fixing the board fix the water too. Would be nice to swim there.

Audrey Smith: Pity no one can use is for swimming.

Vickie Lewis: Paddle boarding and kayaking should be an option. I’m sure we used to be able to pedalo years ago. Such a shame it’s been left. This side of town seems to get forgotten.

Jodie Moss: Sort the water out too! Then it can actually be used.

Karl Alexander: Make it into a feeding platform to feed the ducks from and make a bridge over to it.

Shauna Reid: It's a waste of money, spend it on revamping the town which is in dire need of it!

Jane Northcott: Why? Is anyone gonna dive off it? I wouldn’t have thought so!? Another way of wasting tax payers' money! Why do you not put in to social care or any other sector that’s in desperate need of money? Swindon Borough Council is infuriating! If you want to revamp it so much they can pay for it out of their own money!

Cally Lesley: Spend it on potholes.

Sally Squeak: Has anyone read the article before making a bunch of negative comments? The revamp of the diving board is part of the bigger project which includes a new children’s playground and improved cafe facilities. Sound like a good idea to me.

Richard Balch: Just a rub down and a coat of paint doesn't cost that much to repaint or even a spray paint. What would be nice would be a boat with lights near it so you can walk into the park and it makes a bit more attractive. Love this park but it does need some exciting things. The entrance from the bridge that you walk under which is under Queens Drive is where it all needs to be spoofed up a bit so people can walk and feel safe with lights and CCTV. We need a building that is actually open to sell food and food for the ducks. Once you've gone into the woodland area it becomes very dangerous. I know it's been the way it has for years but this century and town is becoming more dangerous and vulnerable people do need to be thought of.
