Locals and school children from Wanborough helped support the Queen's Jubilee initiative by planting 30 trees.

Residents were joined by 27 children from Wanborough Primary School's year 6 at Church Meadow for the environmentally friendly community event on Friday.

They planted 10 Rowan, 10 Silver Birch and 10 Cherry trees, and also planted wildflower seeds in the areas around each tree.

Wanborough Parish Council were sent the trees after applying to take part in the Queen's Green Canopy project, in celebration of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee later this year.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee."

Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sarah Rose Troughton also attended the planting at the village and gave a speech beforehand to explain the aim of the project and the importance of trees.

The Queen and Prince Charles planted the first Jubilee tree in the ground of Windsor Castle last March, and people across the country have been planting trees ever since.

The Platinum Jubilee will mark 70 years of service from the Queen and is actually on Sunday February 6, but plans have been made to celebrate it from June 2 to June 5 with a four day bank holiday weekend.
