The building formerly inhabited by Chiquitos has been given a new lease of life after years of laying empty with the opening of Fiesta De Cuba.

The Cuban restaurant comes after what the team behind The Ridge Bar & Grill have called a 'significant investment'.

Around 40 full and part-time jobs have been created as well as bringing some much-needed life to the Greenbridge area.

It opened to the public on Valentine's day but completed the final night of its opening weekend on Saturday evening with a grand opening ceremony where the mayor of Swindon, councillor Garry Perkins, did the honours of cutting the ribbon.

Swindon Advertiser:

There were balloons, a red carpet and even classic 50s American cars to commemorate the event.

"The food was great, they were attentive with their service and there was a good ambience. The American cars were a nice touch too," said Coun Perkins.

Alongside the mayor, the launch weekend was attended by everyone involved in the redevelopment of the unit along with friends, family and local business owners.

"The weekend was a huge success with fantastic feedback from everyone," general manager Tom Steele said.

"With an extensive selection of rums, tequilas, and tapas dishes, Fiesta de Cuba is a destination for those wanting to experience a touch of Cuban and Southern American culture without having to hop on a plane.

"Adding to an already packed menu, they will soon be launching a bottomless brunch where you can choose from classics like a full English or go all out with pancakes topped with caramel sauce and rum bananas.

"If savoury is more your thing, Sunday 27th March promises the launch of Paella Sundays, a great alternative to a Sunday roast.

Swindon Advertiser:

“We want it to be a vibrant, fresh, and really fun alternative to what’s already here for the people of Swindon," Tom added.

"Whether you’re looking for a place to celebrate an occasion, a casual drink before heading to the cinema or a spot of breakfast, Fiesta de Cuba hopes to be just that."

The enterprise is a passion project from twin brothers Luke and Scott Jacobs who started the popular Shaw Ridge venue Ridge Bar and Grill in 2017.
