Another Arkell's pub has closed this week with the landlord of the Boundary House confirming its doors have now closed.

Jeannine Vernon Lewis has managed the Moredon local for nearly three years after taking charge just before the Covid pandemic hit, but she confirmed Tuesday, February 15, was her last day after handing her notice in last December.

In a post on the pub's Facebook page last week she said: "A massive thank you for all those who supported me in this chapter of my life, the staff who were all amazing and not forgetting my Andy Currey for being my rock.

"I have made some lovely friends who we will definitely keep in contact with, it's been emotional through good times and bad, what a great pub the Boundary is, such great character of a building. Hope you all take care."

But a more blunt follow-up post on the day of closure read: "Pub closed down, sad day, Moredon you should have supported your local. Now it's gone."

Jeannine said that there wasn't enough business from the Moredon community to make running the pub sustainable which led to her 'difficult' decision to walk away.

"There just wasn't enough people coming in," she told The Adver.

"It's so sad for the elderly and regulars who came in daily to meet up but it wasn't enough. I feel for those who looked forward to their two pints of 3Bs"

"Closing the pub was a very hard decision. I invested a lot of my money into it and Arkells did too.

"I kept thinking we will pull it through but we couldn't."

She had retired as a hairdresser to follow her dream of owning a community pub, but will now be returning to the trade.

A member of staff who worked there described their time there as an enjoyable one.

"Absolutely loved working at the Boundary with you all, we had such a good team.I loved every minute."

One regular pubgoer spoke about the loss of his local.

"A friend of mine walked past earlier today and said that it was closed and wouldn't be opening again. "

"It's a massive shame, The Boundary was my local, I don't go out much but I'd go there."

The future of the pub on The Street is now unclear as brewery Arkell's has not responded to our request for comment.

It comes as the Duke of Edinburgh, also owned by the brewery, looks set to close permanently in March if a new landlord is not found.
