Swindon’s Sikh temple will host a pop-up Covid-19 vaccination clinic on Sunday - and it is only the second place of worship in the region to do so.

All three jabs of the Covid-19 vaccine will be available from the Shri Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Kembrey Street between 10am and 3pm on February 27 and there is no need to book in advance.

This new venue announcement is part of a wider effort by the Clinical Commissioning Group for Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire to use community-based buildings for vaccination clinics. The CCG wants to make getting jabbed as easy as possible for those more reluctant about the vaccine.

The CCG's director of nursing and quality Gill May said: “We are incredibly excited to be able to bring a pop-up vaccination clinic to one of the most iconic and eye-catching locations in Swindon.

“Over the last few weeks, our teams of mobile vaccinators have visited everywhere from pubs and universities to football stadiums and city centre high streets, but it is an enormous privilege for us to now bring a clinic to this unique place of worship.

“Thousands of people in Swindon are still without any form of vaccination, and we’d encourage any person in need of a vaccine, regardless of their faith, to visit our friendly team this coming Sunday.”

Salisbury Cathedral was the first place of worship in the Clinical Commisioning Group region to deliver thousands of vaccines during 2021.

More than 22,000 people who are eligible to receive the vaccine have not yet come forward.
