WHEN the borough council released its annual report detailing its £156.7m budget we asked readers where they thought more money should be spent.

The council said 80 per cent of the money would be spent on helping those in the community who needed it most. Almost half is going on adult services, £46m is destined for children, families and community and £3.8 will go towards roads and buildings.

Readers had plenty to say about it and here's what some of them suggested...

John Sturgeon: "Instead of cutting back council services how about improving them and give the people who work for them at the lower levels a good wage."

Mike Davies: "It doesn't have any money because of the ridiculous central govt that they prop up. The rot starts at the top."

Steve Hanczuk: "If they have that much to spend, how about lowering taxes?"

Stacey Cooke: "You can thank adult social care for the rise in taxes."

Andrew Little: "Give back the disabled people their jobs, who they made redundant at the Enterprise works, for starters."

Craig Smith: "Pay the binmen more money so our and take on more so they can collect our recycling when they are supposed to."

Rachel Sellens: "Improve and re-build the abandoned housing up at Old Town seeing as there is a housing shortage."

Angie Phillips: "Drive about 100 meters in any direction and the answer is obvious... fix the potholes, but not with a temporary dump of tarmac... properly!"

Angela Sindy Reid: "Sports / leisure facilities."

Maria Lynch: "Parking in residential areas. Need to get road sweeping back on a regular basis. Not just main roads but all roads, need to send letters out to people who let there garden hedges hang over pathways.

"More bins especially outside all these takeaways. Five takeaways on Clive Parade, not one bin. Cctv in known flytipping areas.

"Bring back the health clinics in local areas for babies to be checked up on. This used to be a great service, not only for checking on babies but support for new mother and fathers who could get correct information, buy the baby formula, vitamins etc.

"Plus it may highlight the parents who may need additional support."

Zoe Thomas: "Give the recycling crews more time to complete their rounds so they don’t throw half the rubbish across my garden and they have time to put the lids back on the recycling boxes so they don’t end up half way across Swindon."

Jo Lilley: "Traffic cones? Because they need more of those to close more roads off."

Shaun Miller: "Some more nice posh Bus Boulevards, where buses and pedestrians can live as one."
