The building that used to house popular Swindon venue Suju is set to be given a new lease of life with the opening of a brand new £750,000 nightclub.

Last year, Boards were put up around around the disused Old Town building promising the arrival of a new night-life destination - Kioki.

The new venture, earmarked for an April opening, was described on its social media as being 'ultra modern' with an 'ancient Balinese twist.' and promised the 'latest state of the art sound and lighting.'

Vibrant colours in advertising and social media teases suggest that Kioki will look very different to any nightclub Swindon has had before. One post says that they orded a number of statues for decoration direct from Bali

It then later confirmed the exact official opening date of April 23, which is when Swindon residents will finally be able to make use of the 3 bars, club lounge and huge outdoor garden.

"WE HAVE A DATE. On Saturday 23rd April we finally open our doors!" The post said

"After 7 months of some radical refurbishment work, a shipment of hand carved treasures direct from Bali and over £750,000 spent, this Old Town site has been totally transformed from top to bottom!

"Kioki is guaranteed to blow your mind like nothing you will have ever seen in Swindon before."

With the club's opening mere weeks away, it is currently undergoing a recruitment drive indicating that it is looking for bar staff, bar support staff, VIP hosts, shot sellers and cloakroom attendants.

Swindon Advertiser:

The building on 28 High Street used to be home to former nightclub SUJU which closed its doors for good in March 2021 due to the impact of Covid.

The SUJU team posted on Facebook: "It is with a very heavy heart that we must announce the closure of SUJU nightclub.

"The continued impact of the Covid pandemic has made it impossible for us to continue to meet our financial responsibilities.

"We are immensely proud to have been part of Swindon’s clubbing scene for nearly 15 years, hosting amazing events with great DJs, performance acts and comedians."

Kioki says it is aiming for the adult market and so is only going to cater to over 21s, with anyone younger not allowed.

It will be open Wednesdays to Sundays, 5pm until late.
