Pets at Home manager suspended after Rottweiler attacked neighbour

Adelaide Fernandez’s dog Packo attacked the 22-year-old neighbour in Tansley Moor, Liden, in August 2021, leaving her with a “huge gaping hole” in her arm which needed plastic surgery.

She previously appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court in February where she pleaded guilty to being in control of a dangerously out of control dog which caused injury – an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

At another hearing, on March 28, it was heard how the Rottweiler had “pulled and pulled and gnawed down on this 22-year-old lady’s arm, and she had to go to the hospital where she was kept for a few days”.

She also had to attend the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for further treatment.

Fernandez, of Tansley Moor, appeared back at the same court on Thursday (April 28) where she was sentenced.

She was fined £80, and ordered to pay £85 in costs plus a £34 victim surcharge.

The court was told how she had been suspended from her role as assistant store manager at Pets at Home.

Magistrates also decided not to order compensation or issue an order banning the 39-year-old from owning dogs in the future.

In last month’s hearing, it was heard how the day after the incident, Fernandez had contacted the Spain-based charity that she obtained Packo from to rehome the Rottweiler again.

Her contact arranged for a new owner to meet the 39-year-old at a service station on the M4 where it was handed over.

The police were unable to ascertain where the dog was, but since the last hearing, they have located it and confirmed it will be put to sleep.
