A list of recent planning applications in Swindon Borough Council

TOWN CENTRE

Another closed down social club can be turned into flats.

Swindon Borough Council planners have approved a proposal by Patrick Slattery from Highworth to convert the closes Albion Sports and Social Club on the corner of Bridge Street and Henry Street into seven apartments.

The building is actually three different structures according to Mr Slattery’s application, which said: “The stone building is a former Baptist School, built in 1868, while the other two buildings are more recent being early 20th century in age.

"The site was used, up until September 2017, as a private sports and social club, being established some 40 years ago. The club vacated the premises in September 2018.”

The original plan was to convert the buildings into 10 single-bed flats – but after much discussion the approved proposal is for  two single-person flats, four one bedroom two person flats and one two bed apartment suitable for three people.

TOWN CENTRE

There is a minor trend emerging for plans to build extra storeys on shops or office buildings in the town centre to construct flats.

After a plan was lodged to do that in Commercial Road, a new proposal has been made by London firm Amanda Holdings Ltd to put two storeys on the empty shop unit formally used by Co-operative Funeral Care in Regent Street.

The plan is to use those storeys and the existing first floor of the building for nine apartments.

The new teaching block will have a cool room, a warm room, a room for caring for exotic mammals, a hot room for reptiles and a room for the medical treatment and quarantine of animals.

CENTRAL

A single home, with three bedrooms, over two storeys and a basement could become two flats. A Mr N Underwood has applied to convert 8 Cambria Bridge Road into the apartments.

The conversion looks to be a complicated arrangement.

The plans show  one flat will have its living area, kitchen and bathroom in the basement with the bedroom on the ground floor. The other flat will have its main living area on the ground floor with bathroom, kitchen and dining room on the upper floor.
