Several people in Wiltshire have been charged with fines relating to e-scooters in the past year.

E-scooters are treated as motor vehicles, so, if they are used on a road, pavement or public place they are subject to the same legal requirements as any motor vehicle.

This includes having the relevant insurance.

Anyone who is caught riding an e-scooter without the correct licence, or is riding an e-scooter without insurance could face a Fixed Penalty notice of up to £100 and up to six points on their licence.

A privately-owned e-scooter can only legally be used on private land and with the permission of the landowner. It is illegal to use them on a public road, pavement or other public areas.
