Hundreds of people gathered in Royal Wootton Bassett as the town marked 60 years of it’s annual carnival.

Floats and people in fancy dress descended on Saturday.

Laura Patterson who organised this year’s events said she was delighted by how many people attended the carnival.

She said: “It went really, really well, and everyone seemed to have a really good day.

The atmosphere was brilliant, I’ve never so many people turn up at the carnival.

“We were all absolutely thrilled that so many people came out.”

Before the event, a memorial bench was unveiled by North Wiltshire MP James Gray in honour of Chris Wannell & Mary Harrison who were two founding members of the carnival.

Both Mr Wannell and Ms Harrison both sadly passed away last year.

The memorial was unveiled on Marlowe Way, that annual starting point of the carnival.

Swindon Advertiser:

Mr Gray was a personal friend of both Chris and Mary.

Cllr Mary Champion also attended the unveiling to show her support & gratitude and Town Crier Owen Collier opened the unveiling.

On Sunday, a service was held to celebrate the success of the carnival.
