A BUSY road in North Swindon has reopened after being blocked by a large tree for hours.
A long queue of congestion formed along the B4019 Cricklade Road between Blunsdon and Highworth earlier today as the toppled trunk stopped the flow of rush hour traffic.
The tree caused a road closure which led to long tailbacks but the way is now clear.
At 8.35am, a Swindon Borough Council spokesman announced: "The B4019 between Blunsdon and Highworth has now reopened.
"Big shout out to our Tree Gang who were out early this morning to clear it."
A photo shared on the council's Facebook page shows the scale of the obstruction.
The tree fell at some point late on Monday night.
At the time, around midnight, an SBC spokesman said: "The B4019 between Sams Lane, Blunsdon and Highworth is closed due to a fallen tree.
"The current weather conditions mean our tree gang are unable to clear the tree safely, so the road will remain closed until the morning.
"Trenchard Road to Blunsdon from Stanton Fitzwarren is also closed. Please find alternative routes.
"The tree gang will be out at 6.30am and will clear it as quickly as possible."
