A handful of places in Wiltshire have been named among the 200 best places to live in the county.

Muddy Stiletto has created a Top 200 Place to Live series which allows people to vote on what they think the best places to live are.

Eight Wiltshire towns and villages have been put on the list.

1. Malmesbury

Malmesbury is dubbed a "charming market town" with heaps of history after being the country's oldest borough. It also has a resident 12th-century Abbey, which is still in use today.

Its community spirit was also praised.

2. Sherston

Sherston is described as ''a stunning Cotswold village with a lively community spirit''.

It has clubs and activities for any interest you could imagine, including the Sherston Velo Cycling Club, cricket, football, tennis and drama, making it the perfect place to meet new people and socialise.

3. Devizes

Devizes has been named "a lively market town" with lots of independent shops and summer festival scene. What makes the town particularly special, is the architecture, according to Muddy Stilettos.

The town is filled with over 500 listed buildings from every era, from medieval to Georgian and Victorian.

4. Marlborough

Muddy Stilettos describes Marlborough as having retained much of its original rustic charm, but with a refreshingly forward-thinking feel.

Living in Marlborough will set you back a pretty penny in comparison to other areas of the county, with an average house price of £412,904, according to Rightmove.

5. Bradford-on-Avon

Bradford-on-Avon is dubbed a "gorgeous historic town" that boasts not only natural beauty, but also architectural beauty.

Muddy Stilettos chose the beautiful Wiltshire town for its fantastic location on the banks of the River Avon and "honey-coloured stone".

6. Salisbury

Full of medieval splendour with a cluster of funky independent shops, Salisbury is named the sixth best place in Wiltshire to live.

7. Tisbury

Steeped in over 2,000 years of history, Tisbury is the largest village in the Nadder Valley, in the West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It’s a 'seductive' town with an appealing mix of ancient stone properties and Victorian redbrick houses, a growing number of commuters both to London and Exeter, and a thriving high street with a great range of shops.

8. Warminster

Warminster has a wealth of indies and a certain spirit; residents are proud of their town. The natural landscape nearby is a massive draw, with Cley Hill, Longleat, Stonehenge and Cranborne Chase AONB all on the doorstep it’s heaven for walkers and cyclists.
