TWO unique pieces of art are set to boost a fundraising auction for Ukrainians whose lives have been ripped apart by the Russian invasion.

The people of Wroughton have worked together to provide an impressive set og items including a holiday, a diamond pendant necklace and a 65in LED television for an event organised by Cliff Barry and his wife Jo.

And as Friday's fundraiser event approaches, two pieces of art have been added to the list of things that can be snapped up by lucky bidders.

The first is from Jacqueline Hurley, who is widely regarded as the UK's foremost remembrance artist. It is a poignant tribute to the people on the ground in Ukraine, adopting the national blue and yellow colours.

Swindon Advertiser:

Cliff said: "Jacqueline expressively wanted to use the painting to raise funds for providing food, water, medicine, basic essentials and baby supplies to the people of Ukraine.

"She has donated her painting to help raise much-needed funds for the desperate plight of the Ukrainian people and the great and much-respected work Humanitarian Aid Ukraine is voluntarily doing by travelling to the Ukrainian borders to help and support them."

Bidding on this artwork has already started and the last update provided said it was at £3,000. Jacqueline also has a limited edition run of just 100 signed prints that will be available.

The second piece - another blue and yellow tribute to the war-torn country - is from Traci Smith, once of the Damien Hirst's studio.

Swindon Advertiser:

"The skills involved in the artwork below are huge," Cliff added. "Traci specialises in paper works that are all cut by hand. Her work is totally unique. They are literally the only artworks method of their kind in the world.

"Please consider bidding. We already have an opening bid of £1,000. Traci will sign this piece. There will be no prints or copies. This is a one-off masterpiece that will never be replicated."

The lots also include a meal and a live performance from band The Zoots.

Cliff has been driving aid collected in Swindon and its surrounding areas to the border of Ukraine in a van he helped to pay for with his own fundraising efforts.

The next trip to the border is planned for June 13.

The auction is taking place at Alexandra House Hotel on Friday, June 10 at 6.15pm more details and the last few tickets can be found here.
