Thousands of sci-fi lovers arrived in Swindon in their droves as they attended the town’s first-ever comic con over the weekend.
Doctor Who stars such as Peter Davidson who was the fifth doctor during the 1980s and Janet Fielding who played Tegan Jovanka in Doctor Who between 1981 and 1984 appeared at the event signing autographs.
The BBC has recently announced that she will be returning to Doctor Who in the autumn for the centenary special.
Other guests included Madeline Smith who played Miss Caruso in Live and Let Die, Valerie Leon from The Spy Who Loved Me and Never Say Never Again, and sculptor Brian Muir - the original designer of the Darth Vader helmet.
The event was organised by the Stars of Time, who arrange the annual Comic-Con in Weston-Super-Mare.
After 10 years of running events in the Somerset area, the organisers wanted a bigger venue.
Harry Burrows said: “We’ve been operating in Western Super Mare for the past ten years and as myself and my brother have got a little bit older we’ve been able to help more.
“This means we can put on more events and we have a growing team now.
“Swindon looked perfect for us, easy transport routes, great museum, great venue. We are lucky to have an amazing venue here.”
The 23-year-old talked about what it takes to organise an event such as the comic con.
He said: “It’s a family-run business, we usually sit round in a board meeting which is our kitchen table and we say what do we want.
“We’ll discuss what is popular at the moment, and we then go through our list.
“My brother made initial contact with the Steam Museum just before Christmas and then as soon as we got the dates pencilled in.
“For a good six months, we were planning and organising through sending texts and emails, a lot of work goes into it.”
Janet Fielding said she was amazed by how many fans had turned out.
“I think it has taken off,” she said.
“That fandom has taken off and people enjoy it.
“It’s a perfectly healthy way to spend your time and people like to have a hobby.
“The fandom world has got a lot friendlier than it used to be, it was not as friendly back in the 80s.
"I think it’s got a lot nicer.”
