THE people of Tadpole Garden Village are in for a treat after the completion of the area's war memorial.

A Spitfire will be taking to the skies above North Swinodn in August, when the official opening of the memorial is held.

The Tadpole Garden Village In Bloom Twitter account said: "We have a Spitfire flypast from the Royal Air Force for an official opening of our memorial in August."

The memorial consists of a large stone with a plaque on it made by local company Swindon Memorials, and a platform for the laying of wreaths and flowers.

Work began to install the memorial in Tadpole Garden Village in January 2021, and while it has been used since, the finishing touches haven't been completed until the last few weeks.

Volunteers fundraised and installed the memorial. Funding from the National Lottery paid for a path to be installed and local children planting wildflowers nearby.

The memorial opening will be taking place on Saturday, August 13, but the timings of the event, as well as the Spitfire flyover are yet to be confirmed.

More information will be released in due course.
