Pupils are being given a whole new perspective on the topics they are studying after their school invested in virtual reality headsets.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is one of an increasing number of schools adopting technology to change the way lessons are delivered.

ICT and physics teacher Paul Reynolds explained students learn better through experience and the use of these headsets is a unique way to inspire and engage them.

“The headsets have enabled us to examine the structure of an atom in physics, explore a space station, do dangerous experiments in a virtual laboratory and, of course, enjoy a few games.

"The possibilities are endless and the students can be transported to a different place and time.”

The secondary school, which is part of the Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Trust, has bought three VR headsets for students.

The equipment enables them to engage with interactive content of images or videos and explore 360 degrees of a scene, creating an immersive experience to spark imaginations and encourage creative thinking.

Paul added: “This is groundbreaking. We have a generation of children born and raised in a digital era and we must embrace new ways of learning.

"Students can learn about the world around them in a safe and controlled environment using these headsets.”
