THE Swindon Male Voice Choir will perform its first concert since appointing a new director of music.

Kirstie Smith stepped into the role in May after Max More decided to retire following 32 years as choir leader.

The choir, led by Kirstie and accompanists Katie Lock and Victora Burton, will be staging a performance at St John's Church on Whitbourne Avenue at 7/30pm on Saturday July 9.

Proceeds will be split equally between the choir and Prospect Hospice.

Concert secretary Gordie Smith said: "Kirstie has brought her own style and brand to the choir, a style the choir is adapting to with enjoyment and relish.

"The future looks very promising. Rehearsals continue to be fun while working hard to learn words and perform music to Kirstie’s direction and enthusiasm.

"A full programme of music is being prepared for the concert, including fresh items to our repertoire.

“These are very exciting times for the choir, and we look forward to providing ‘A Little Light Music for a Summer Evening’."

The choir will be supported with soprano Rachel Smith, baritone Simon Grove, and tenor Paul Franklin.
