THREE Swindon youngsters will be taking part when the Scouts and Guides put on a 90th anniversary theatrical spectacular in London called Gang Show 90. 

Alicia Smith, 24, a leader in training with Stratton St Margaret, Charlie Tinson, 20, a leader from 17th Swindon Cubs and Scouts, and Lillian Ruddle, from 6th Swindon Scout Group at St Savours Old Town, are the trio from the town who will be taking part. 

They will be among 166 people from 39 Gang Shows across the UK taking part in the song-and-dance event at the Eventim Apollo in London this coming weekend 

This will mark 90 years of the Scouts and Guides putting on a Gang Show with the organisation saying they are proud of the role their big shows have played. 

Alicia said: "I'm mainly singing with everyone, I’ve got a special little bit where we’re bringing some elderly people from the first shows to come onto the stage – only 20 of us doing that during the show.

"I am nervous, to be honest, It’s also a lot to learn. The last time I went to the Gang Show I was at college and now I'm balancing it with work which is hard, but it’s going to be an amazing atmosphere. I'm ecstatic to be part of it."

The trio travelled to London this past weekend for their last rehearsal with everyone before the event takes place on July 9.

Charlie, who will be playing the guitar, added: "It was amazing! It was really cool to see it all come together, we ran the whole show and I couldn't believe how in six days everything has come together.

"I'm really looking forward to it. I will remember it for the rest of my life going forward and will never experience something like this again, It's a once-in-a-lifetime iconic thing."

A spokesperson from Gang Show 90 said: "We are proud of the role Gang Show has had around the world. From being a platform for young performers and technicians, Shows continue to develop to be as relevant today as they have always been.

"Gang Show 90 is shaped around our young people. The cast is made up exclusively of Scouts and Guides aged between 14 and 25 and at least 20% of the show is decided on by the cast."
