A motoryclist involved in a crash on the A419 last night has died.

The local man in his 40s died at the scene near Blunsdon after he came off his bike yesterday evening.

An air ambulance and police were called to the southbound carriageway just after 8pm.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The A419 was closed in both directions overnight.

The road is still shut southbound between Cricklade and Blunsdon as officers carry out their investigation and clean up work takes place.

Drivers are experiencing delays of around 25 minutes and queues stretch back two miles on the A419.

The motorcyclist's next of kin has been informed and are being supported by a specialist officer.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"The A419 currently remains closed while the incident continues to be dealt with and collision investigators carry out enquiries.

"We’d like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or may have seen the motorcyclist prior to the collision, to get in touch if they have not already spoken to police."
