The M4 westbound has fully reopened this afternoon after a devastating lorry fire that caused long queues and delays for almost 12 hours.

Emergency services were called to an incident between Junction 14 for Hungerford and Junction 15 for Swindon at around 1.40am on Friday.

A trailer burst into flames, which saw the motorway being closed for 30 minutes while the police and fire service assessed the situation.

Lane three was then reopened a short time later, leaving the other two two closed.

This was to allow National Highways to clear the road of debris and to resurface the section of the motorway.

Chaos emerged during rush-hour, with traffic queuing for up to five miles.

Firefighters from Ramsbury supported colleagues from Newbury and Hungerford with a water carrier and the aerial ladder platform being deployed.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed nobody was injured or arrested after the incident.

Highways England now confirmed that all three lanes of the motorway have now reopened to traffic.

However, motorists are being warned that there are delays of up to 50 minutes as traffic returns to normal.
