Trains services through Swindon and Wiltshire are set to be severely disrupted in the next few weeks as another round of rail strikes looks get underway.

ASLEF, the train drivers union, is holding a strike this weekend in a dispute over pay and working conditions.

As a result, Great Western Railway services across the network are set to be affected.

On Saturday, August 13, services will start at 7am and finish at 6.30pm.

No other GWR services will run apart from the following:

  • Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington
  • Reading to Oxford
  • Reading to Basingstoke

South Western Railway services will not be affected by the planned ASLEF strike action on this day.

But on August 18 and August 21, the RMT union is holding a national strike which will bring the network to a halt.

Train companies across England and Wales will be forced to run a reduced service on these dates.

On August 18 and August 20, GWR will not run the following services.

  • All lines in Cornwall, including all branch lines
  • West of Newton Abbot (change at Exeter) towards Plymouth/Cornwall (due to no contingency signallers)
  • All branch lines in Devon (Barnstaple, Exmouth, Paignton, Okehampton)
  • South Wales main line (Carmarthen/Swansea–Cardiff Central)
  • Berks & Hants line (Reading–Taunton via Castle Cary)
  • Wessex main line (Bath Spa–Portsmouth Harbour)
  • Heart of Wessex line (Westbury–Weymouth)
  • TransWilts line (Swindon–Westbury via Melksham)
  • Severn Beach line (Bristol Temple Meads–Severn Beach)
  • North Cotswolds line (Hereford/Worcester–Oxford)
  • South Cotswolds line (Cheltenham Spa–Swindon)
  • Worcester/Gloucester
  • Greenford branch line
  • North Downs line (Reading–Gatwick Airport)

This means there will be no train services on these dates from Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham, Westbury, Pewsey and Warminster.

There will also be no South Western Railway services from Westbury to Sailsbury via Warminster.

Swindon and Chippenham will be served by two trains an hour to Bristol and London during all three strike dates.

GWR is allowing people with tickets for travel on Saturday, August 13 to be able to travel on the day before and up to and including August 16.

People with tickets for travel on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 are able to travel on the day before and up to and including Tuesday, August 23.
