THE winners of a competition to find the best front gardens in South Swindon have been revealed.
South Swindon parish councillors presented the six gardeners with their awards at a prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday.
Gail Collins, Hilary Woodward, Roy and Belinda Partington, Simon Horner, Rhiannon Morris and Nenita Austin were thrilled with their prize money and the custom-made plaques made by Coun Vince Ayris.
The competition aimed to encourage neighbours in the area to use the front of their properties to brighten up their communities. The Midcounties Co-op donated £250 towards the project for prizes.
Parish council environment working party chair Linda Kasmaty said: "We were really pleased with the standard of entries in our first front garden competition.
"Front gardens make such a difference to a street and so we’re hoping this idea catches on and we have more people considering how they could ‘green up’ the front of their properties.
"Please get in touch if this is something you are thinking about, and we can have ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos."
Youth working party chair Dave Griffiths added: “It was great to give out some prizes to the winners, and a big thank you to Midcounties Cooperative Society for donating the prizes.”
